No Escape (Movie Review)

Okay, it’s been too long since I wrote my last movie review. As you might know, I’m keen on watching action films in the Steven Seagal genre.

Today, I’m gonna review No Escape, an action thriller by Owen Wilson. What…wait? Owen Wilson? Yep, the Shanghai Noon, comedy guy with the nasal cowboy accent.

Anyway, check out the movie poster.

Oh yeah, Pierce “James Bond” Brosnan stars in this film, moving in and out of scenes like a ghost.

The stor starts with an American family moving to Thailand for daddy’s new job. However, a rebel coup sets into motion after the Prime Minister’s assassination and Owen Wilson’s family is caught in the war zone. The rebels seem bent on killing foreigners and even locals (I’m not sure why) and he finds that there is…No Escape!

It is filmed very well in terms of set design and the explosions. You also experience the gut-wrenching tension as you fear for Wilson’s wife and two cute daughters.

A major flaw of the film would be Owen Wilson himself.

In regards to acting, I think his family all acted better than him. And that is terrible. Owen couldn’t really look angry or scared and mostly just looked dumb with his blank stares.

However, I still liked this gritty movie depicting how an ordinary man would do anything to survive and protect his family. Was there really no escape? That’s for you to find out.
